Please allow me to share a short background story.
I started playing football at the age of 8. I played for a number of clubs in the UK and overseas gaining bundles of experience. From getting to know about other cultures to learning how to live by myself. I have always had a bond with the younger generations coming through. I found myself educating, mentoring and coaching young players in the game. I became very passionate about what I was doing and I want to share this with as many players as I can. Its fulfilling to witness their personal developments and see their potentials to become great athletes and even greater humans. This has inspired me to come up with the idea to create and provide a venue and training facility for aspiring young footballers that would not have had the opportunity in Sri Lanka, where my mother comes from.
Sharing My Knowledge.
Having the experience of being a professional footballer, earning the UEFA B licence (as an authorised Football Coach) and presently working towards my UEFA A licence helped me decide that i am now ready to make this idea come into fruition.
This academy aims to build a strong bridge between Sri Lanka and Europe, to bring an English Dimension with a Tiki-Taka fashion. By developing their skills, teaching them the right attitude and giving them inspiration. I will prepare them for a better future that would impact the lives of their own families and communities.
Playing Career
Joined Gillingham FC as a youth team player also signing my first professional contract. A day i will never forget. Making my first team debut at the age of 18 coming on as a substitute against Luton Town. Making 15 appearances in League 1 to going on Loan and dealing with being released in one season.
Starting the next season as a trialist at AFC Wimbledon and Lincoln City before signing for Cypriot side Apep. Where I spent a season and a half in Cyprus. Made life time friends and experienced a different style of play. Beautiful Memories.
I had a brief spell in Australia playing in the Victoria and Brisbane Premier Leagues. Returning back to England having to go on trial at non-league clubs.
Playing for Eastbourne Borough and Whitehawk FC where we reached the Conference play off finals.
Finally having represented Sri Lanka and playing in the world cup qualifiers is one of my biggest achievements.
